Since I was a kid I always wanted to get close to Great White Sharks! Much of this came from the movie Jaws, but so much amazement and wide eyed excitement from documentaries too. At a time after Jaws came out when some people would go out for the thrill of catching a Great White, I wanted to photograph one, or a silly kid’s dream to ‘make friends’ with it, having a White following me and my friends by the side of our boat, going on adventures with us.

I always vowed to make a film on Great Whites. If you love doing something so much, then you should film it too. I wanted to thrill friends and family with huge images of Whites swimming on their big screen tv, something super powerful, exciting and epic.

When I was travelling and deciding where to fly to next I immediately thought of South Africa and said “THERE!!! I’M GOING TO WHERE GREAT WHITES ARE!”. I heard about some big guy in South Africa who actually SWIMS with Great Whites! The first time I heard of anyone doing this. This sent my excitement through the roof. I wanted to do this myself in my film! That man turned out to be the legendary ANDRE HARTMAN, also the first person to open a White Shark’s mouth just by touching their nose. I nervously called up this Shark God, asking if I could film with him, but his friendliness and generosity also said I could FREEDIVE with Whites and stay at his place. We never got the weather to free dive with Whites but Andre’s incredible openness let me film him interacting with whites, a master weaving his magic with these sharks.

I later filmed with other White Shark legends, BRIAN MCFARLANE, and MICHAEL RUTZEN, world famous too for his close interactions swimming with Whites. Michael was gobsmacking, for not only swimming with Whites and doing the nose touch/open mouth trick, but that he loved Whites so much that they ruled his life.

Whites were in low numbers from decades of fishing, but despite now being protected, were still getting killed, which could push their numbers down even lower. So I travelled to other regions such as USA, Mexico and the Mediterranean to try and cover this.

I now have a film that tries to show positive interactions of White Sharks and humans that may benefit us both, but also our negative interactions that’s destructive to these animals. Hopefully you will enjoy and get education from my doc, maybe even moved enough to try and help save Whites and other shark species. Thanks for your interest here. I hope you like my film.
